LO2 - Conventions of an ident (P2)

One convention of a TV ident is to have the channels name displayed within the ident. The ident I have chosen which is BBC One showcases their channels name in each ident at the end with a circle formed at the end of each ident which they use to display their channel name as the circle contributes to the coloration of the letter 'O' in BBC One. By having the channels name displayed it allows the audience to go to the channel to watch the show they heard on the ident as they may have been intrigued to watch it. In the idents the use of voice overs is used in all of them, this allows the audience to listen to what shows are on next at specific dates and times through the voice over being played on top of all the action that is going on in the ident to inform the audience what is available to watch. Idents are also usually really short, this is so the audience can quickly watch the ident as it is quick, short and snappy for them to remember what has been said in the ident and the channel name which would be displayed in the ident which they would then go on the channel and look for the show or go on the channel the time the show is being played. Having a short ident makes it easier and better for the audience as they can easily remember what has just been said as well as remembering the channels name from the ident being short and snappy whereas if idents were longer then it would bore the audience as it won't be as interesting it would be long for no reason as short idents get straight to the point by talking about the show previously played and stating the next show whilst including scenes correlating to the channels name. For example, a big channel on BBC One is East Enders. This ident is short and snappy, the ident includes people in the ident looking at something with a shocked/surprised face and they stand around in a crowd and at the end of the ident is a roundabout corresponding to the number one for the channel's name also, overlapping with a voice over talking about a show that is going to be on the channel later on and states the time and day by saying 'On tonight at 8'  the voice over also says to the audience to stay till the end of the show as they may see a special someone they may know which keeps the audience awaiting. The more interacting an ident is, it is much better for the audience for example when the voice over says to stay at the end of the show it will make some of the audience watch the show that is going to be played next just to stay until the end to see the special someone that was mentioned in the ident which allows the show and channel to get more viewers and perhaps a slight change in their number of audience. In this ident as the people were being filmed whilst having a surprise look on their face the East Enders theme song/music was being played in the background of the ident which gives the audience time to familiarize themselves with the theme song of the show. The suspense being built of the people acting shocked and surprised breaks after the roundabout is shown to relate back to the channels name as it is round like the 'O' in One, the suspense breaks when the voice over begins as we find out what they were looking at and the voice over begins to talk about the shows coming on later on,

LO2 - History of your channel and its ident (P2)

I have chosen BBC One ident to rebrand. This TV ident, ' Coloured Capes' was published in 2009. This TV ident was first broadcasted in 2008. The ident is a part of the BBC One 'Circles' campaign from 2006-2016 and was one of the on-screen channel identities for BBC One. The initial idea for the BBC One 'Circles' campaign was to have a film sequence of, plants, animals, people that ended in a circle representing the one for the BBC One channel to correlate its ident to the name of the channel and the logo of the channel as well. 'Capes' was filmed in many West London locations. There were 81 cyclists doing the 4-way spiral wearing the bright colours rain capes. In the ident when forming the spiral, it was filmed from above to show the audience the representation of the circle as well as the cyclists wearing different coloured rain capes to create a rainbow effect.  This BBC One ident has a variety of past adverts before this current ident which I have se...
